Velo! is a card game to play online with family and friends. We ask as little of you as we can. This page explains what we keep, for how long, and why.
What we keep
For each room, the server stores the seats with their nicknames, the state of the game, and the moves. If you use the app and allow notifications, your phone's push token is also stored on your seat.
What we don't ask for
There are no accounts. We don't ask for an email address or a real name. In a friends room you pick a nickname. In a public room you get a made-up name. Single play asks for no name at all. There is no analytics, no advertising, and no tracking.
How long we keep it
A room that isn't finished is deleted after 48 hours without activity. A public room that nobody joins is deleted 2 minutes after it opens. A room whose game has ended loses its nicknames and the game state 1 hour after the end. Every finished game leaves one row behind: the room id, when it started and finished, and how many humans and bots played. No nicknames are in it. We use those rows for the numbers on the statistics page, and we keep them.
Notifications in the app
The app asks once whether it may send you a notification when it's your turn. The push token stays on your seat and goes when your seat goes. Notifications are delivered through Google Firebase Cloud Messaging, and on iPhone also through Apple's push service.
On your own device
We set four kinds of cookies: NEXT_LOCALE remembers your language, VELO_THEME remembers your theme, VELO_STAR remembers which hero you play with (boy or girl), and each room gets one random seat cookie that lasts 7 days. Your device's local storage holds your sound setting, and whether the app has already asked about notifications. Session storage holds a link you opened, and it is cleared when you close the app or tab.
Services we use
Vercel hosts the website. Vercel's request logs contain visitors' IP addresses. Supabase holds the database. Google Firebase delivers the notifications in the app. We don't sell any data, and we don't share any for advertising.
Children
Children can play, because Velo! needs no personal data. Please use a nickname and not a full name.
